Athletic physiotherapy exercise involving a balancing and resistance movement

How Much Does Physiotherapy Cost in South Africa?

This is one of the most common questions we get at Louw & Swart Physiotherapy. The truth is, costs can vary depending on your condition, the length of your session, and whether you need specialised treatments.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what to expect, plus some guidance on when to consult a physiotherapist and what your first visit will look like.

When Should You See a Physiotherapist?

You don’t need to be an athlete or have a major injury to see a physio. Physiotherapy is for anyone who wants to move better, feel stronger, or live with less pain.

You should consider booking a session if you:

  • Have ongoing back or shoulder pain
  • Struggle with movement or stiffness after an injury or surgery
  • Feel recurring tension or muscle tightness
  • Are recovering from an Injury on Duty (IOD)
  • Want to improve performance in sports or daily life

At Louw & Swart Physio, we treat people of all ages – from active teens and working adults to older patients looking to stay mobile and independent.

What to Expect from Your First Physio Visit

Every appointment starts with a full-body assessment. This helps us understand how your body moves and where the pain or imbalance is coming from.

From there, your physio will build a treatment plan that may include:

  • Manual therapy to release tension and restore movement
  • Dry needling or shockwave therapy to speed up recovery
  • Rehabilitation exercises designed to strengthen and stabilise your body
  • Education on posture, everyday movement, and how to prevent re-injury

We believe physiotherapy should be about movement recovery, not just symptom management.

Physiotherapy Costs in South Africa
